This is the Statt Mann Baby!!  Time to Scatt a little bit.

I saw pictures of the new NASCAR Nationwide Mustang project that was announced last July and recently revealed in North Carolina.

It will hit the racetrack next July with Colin Braun at the controls.

Last July when the renderings were raised up the flag pole I was among those who refused to salute.  I thought it was hideous then and I’m convinced of it now.

It’s even sadder to see things like the doors, gas cap and other Mustang style points translated through decals.  But that’s normal in racing.  You can’t have bric-a-brac hanging from a race car.

But the Mustang is such a beautiful design and seeing it mashed into the Nationwide rules is unsettling.

GM and Toyota are refusing the urge to mash the Camaro and, maybe, the new Supra into the Nationwide templates.  There’s talk Dodge might make the Challenger fit. But I hope not.

I still think it would be more than exciting to see the Nationwide series differentiated into the old Trans-Am with Muscle and Pony cars running wild.

But, then, an old man’s dreams are often ignored, aren’t they?

Peace.
