This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit. This Noah Gragson story in NASCAR is troubling. These kinds of headlines show up every season. We’ve had racial slurs, nooses, now social media likes clicked for racially insensitive graphics. Drivers, like everyone else, can think whatever they want. But you wonder why…
Legendary Drivers Richard Petty & Don Garlits talked with the Freaks many years ago. Petty talked about NASCAR’s future and the possibility of racing in Big Cities. We pulled that from our Freakin’ Flashback Files. And on Petty’s 86th birthday Sunday, we remembered Legendary Drag Racer Don Garlits telling us about how he considered Petty’s…
There were many stories written this week making Chicago the first NASCAR street ever. But Kenny Sargent covered one way back in September of 1999 in Los Angeles around the Los Angeles Coliseum parking lot. Some major names were in the NASCAR Southwest Tour race including Cup stars Kenny Irwin (pictured) and Ken Schrader. Listen…
This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit. I’m often critical of NASCAR but this Chicago street race thing was positively inspired. Overlook the weather. NASCAR Driver AJ Allmendinger is a long time Friend of the Freaks. And, on Father’s Day, he’s about to become a Dad in real life. AJ and his wife Tara are expecting a child in August. He talked about that along with some other fun things with The Freaks. Our conversations always end up with…
Three-Time NASCAR Cup Champion Tony Stewart has been coming into The Freak Nation almost as long as there’s been a Freak Nation. Smoke won NASCAR Cup titles in 2002, 2005 and 2011. This conversation at a Danny Lasoskie “lost” weekend in Sedalia, Missouri on a blistering hot afternoon in 2005. The chat went all the…
NASCAR Sonoma Winner Martin Truex & Team Owner Joe Gibbs commented after the race in Sonoma about racing Kyle Busch, a former teammate at Joe Gibbs Racing. Truex also talked about the difficulty of racing on the Sonoma road course where it can be hard to pass another car. Listen…
This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit. I had conversations lately with a couple NASCAR contacts. They confirmed what I think. Within the next five years NASCAR will be flooded with owners who represent private equity banks and hedge funds. Those financial streams took over Formula One when rules changed…
