This is the Stattmann Baby!!  Time to Scatt a little bit.

Don’t blame restrictor plates for today’s problems at Talladega.

From what I saw, the same problems that caused helmets to fly at New Hampshire existed today at Talladega.   You can’t blame plates for drivers who think they have a divine right to track position.

Early on we heard a frustrated Mark Martin imply it would be better for the cars to race at 230 miles an hour without restriction instead of 180 with it.

But imagine Scott Riggs flying at 230 plus?

Or Jimmy Johnson or Mike Bliss at 230 plus when a tire blows?

Who protects a child’s lap when a car lands in the stands at 230 plus?

Jeff Burton had it right:  If driver’s don’t calm down, it’s gonna get worse.

Drivers always point fingers when something goes wrong.

But think about this: forcing cars to do unreasonable things in unreasonable conditions isn’t the restrictor plate’s fault, is it?

Peace…
