This is The Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scat a little bit.

It was fun to see Formula Drift veteran Tyler McQuarrie win the pole in the World Challenge GTS race in Long Beach.

No matter what happens in the race Sunday evening, the point is made.  Formula Drift drivers are excellent drivers and deserve so much more than fascination with their car control.

Tyler’s drift pedigree is more than settled.  He finished third in the points last year despite not winning any events outright.  He was always on the podium.

His past includes a Jim Russell Scholarship that sent him to Formula Vauxhall in Europe for a couple years.

He’s run a stock car at Infineon to the top ten against the Southwest Tour series regulars.

He’s run Sprint Cars and all of this around his driver training and coaching schedule in Northern California.

I’m constantly amused at those who turn their nose up at drifting and drifters.  Five years ago  I had a World Challenge team owner tell me there were as many as a dozen drifters who could be successful in World Challenge.

So Tyler McQuarrie’s success this weekend should be no surprise to people who understand racing and not branding.

Peace.
