This is the Stattmann Baby!!  Time to Scatt a little bit.

There’s so much happening out of the glare of the motorsports spotlight.

Hearing that Roger Penske will be back in sports car racing with a Porsche makes the heart warm, especially if you are old enough to remember the Can-Am killing Porsche 917K Penske developed.

If you think the Audi R8s are masterful you would have bowed down to the 917K.

Then, this weekend in Portland, former World Rally Champion Stig Blomquist, the man who invented the practice of left foot braking, showed up to become a part of American rallying.

Seeing Blomquist and Travis Pastrana compare notes on rallying was, well, STUPID big.

A motocross legend chasing a simple racing legend is a story that will be played out all season long.

Then having Subaru pay for the World Production Rally Champion to come set up Travis’ car, then pay for America’s greatest rally champion ever to coach him, you begin to see why the sport is larger beyond it’s footprint on the racing landscape.

You want to be a race fan?  Watch racing… not weekly circle parades.

Get my DRIFT?

Peace.
