This is the Statt Mann Baby.  It's time to Scatt a little bit.

The final Grand-Am Continental Tire Challenge standings are an object lesson in life.

My friend Billy Johnson and his teammate Jack Roush Junior only finished outside the top five once all season.  They were first or second in six of the ten events including a second this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park.

But that one bad outing at Daytona, a 37th place finish in the first event of the year last January left Johnson and Roush third in the final standings just two points out of second and eight points out of the championship.

The champions, Charles Esplenlaub and Charles Putnam, obviously had a great season, were never outside the top ten, but only had one win all year.

So, let's see, two wins and four seconds compared to one win and one second.  And who's the champion?  The guys with one win.

How's that matter in life? It's another chapter from the Ecclesiastical story: The race isn't to the swift but to those who endure.

You gotta be there… Sorry Billy.

Peace.
