This is the Statt Mann, Baby. It’s time to Scatt a Little Bit…

If you’re looking for a woman to cheer for in motor racing try Trans-Am driver Amy Ruman. She didn’t qualify 18th. Ruman put her Corvette on the Pole at Sebring then won the race today going away, beating three time defending champion Doug Petersen in the process.

Now, I hear you. Trans-Am is a long way from NASCAR and it is.  But competition’s competition, right? And drivers are drivers, winning’s winning and kicking the field’s but is, well, you get the point.

Ruman won in New Jersey and Daytona last year. In fact, she’s the first woman to win a solo overall race at Daytona International Speedway.

Further, Ruman wins Trans-Am races every year. She doesn’t wait for someone to run out of gas to be the last woman standing at the end.

I know Amy’s biggest frustration is not closing the deal on a Trans-Am title. She’s finished second, third and fourth but the championship’s eluded her.

That’s largely because of Doug Petersen who’s won the last three titles in a blazing fast Corvette of his own. But Amy thumped Doug today at Sebring leading a 73 car field to the green and, finally, the checkered flag.

It’s a good start to what might be a great season. Now the good ol’ boys have to chase my Buckeye friend with the great smile and curly brunette hair.

Amy’s worth following this year.

Peace.
