This is the Statt Mann, Baby. It’s time to Scatt a Little Bit…

More evidence this week that winning often has little to do with notoriety in motorsports.

It was a wonderful media day for the 2015 Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship. It was held in Long Beach near the mouth of the harbor. Beautiful day, brilliant sun, scenery and some of the best rallycross drivers in the world.

That includes the young defending champion Joni Wiman who used his championship off-season to brush up on his English. He’s a great conversation with some fun. When he talked about a bad winter at his home in Finland I thought he’d talk about mountains of snow and ice that wouldn’t let you out of the house.

Instead he said there wasn’t enough of either to make it interesting.  Shows you how perspectives differ, doesn’t it?

But instead of introducing the champion to the crowd, Joni was ignored and everyone else got their turn at the microphone. Go figure. No time for the champion.  And worse, few noticed.

We’ve come a long way when success is no longer a yardstick for recognizing competition.

Peace.
