This is the Statt Mann Baby. It’s time to Scatt a little bit.

What a comeback for Global Rallycross points leader Toomas Heikkinen.

A year ago in downtown Los Angeles, Heikkinen had a terrible accident shorting a jump in X Games GRC practice. The accident shattered Heikkinen’s ankle into 15 pieces. The video was gruesome to look at and could have been so much worse.

But now Heikkinen is the hottest name in the championship winning his third straight race Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway.

I met Toomas maybe three years ago when he first came to the U.S. to run some experimental rallycross rounds at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

He’d been racing open-wheel cars at home in Finland and wasn’t sure about the rough-and-tumble world of rallycross. But he was a teenager then and he was smiling whenever he got out of the car. And he listened to every word from mentor, team owner and rally legend Pers Eklund.

Now Heikkinen’s smiles are for leading the Global Rallycross Championship including teammate Tanner Foust who won the first two GRC titles.

It’s been a great couple weeks for Toomas with the three straight wins. But as he heads to this year’s X Games in a couple weeks, I bet he has even more to be smiling about. Especially when he looks at video from last year’s event.

Peace.
