If you like ground pounding American muscle cars racing on road courses pay attention to the Trans-Am Series. Yeah, it’s still going on starting its 50th anniversary season this weekend in Sebring, Florida.

Nearly eighty cars were entered, a record field for Trans-Am. Also there were legendary drivers from Trans-Am’s past like Grand Marshall Bob Tullius, George Follmer, Lyn St. James, Willy T Ribbs, David Hobbs, Jack Baldwin and Ron Fellows.

Defending champion Amy Ruman, and yes a woman won the championship last year, Amy Ruman led 13 of the first 20 laps before spinning to wind up tenth.

Lots of history in Sebring this weekend. Before there was IMSA or World Challenge there was Trans-Am and the brand’s still growing. Seventy-nine entries. Don’t let anyone sell you the idea road racing is dead in America.

Peace.
