This is the Stattmann Baby!!  Time to Scatt a little bit.

The NFL and NASCAR are among the two biggest sports promoters in the world and two things in the current marketplace illustrate the differences between the two.

First: the NFL is lending his promotional help to Invincible, an inspirational Disney film about a Philadelphia bartender who once fought his way onto the Eagles football team after not even playing college football.

NASCAR, on the other hand, has Ricky Bobby.  Shall we say there’s little inspirational in the goofy Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

Then, on the other hand, there’s little inspirational about price gouging NFL owners who continue to charge full price for glorified practice games called pre-season.

There is some price-gouging among NASCAR promoters but, at least, you can say all the races count for something.

So maybe the two are moving closer together.  The only question now: who’s moving into whose neighborhood?  And what will be the for sale signs that pop up as people start to whisper: “who let THEM in?”

Peace.
