This is the Statt Mann, Baby. It’s time to Scatt a Little Bit…

I was listening to The Monster on Eminem’s new album. It’s a duet with Rihanna. A couple lines in the chorus said: “I’m friends with the monster that’s under my bed… get along with the voices in my head.”

Curiously it made me think of sports car teams in the U.S. They’re trying to get ready for the new Tudor United Sports Car Championship that starts at the Daytona 24 Hours in January.

But there are monsters around every corner with new rules and what’s needed to make the cars legal for the coming years.

There are the new limits on the number of teams that can enter any category.

There are the advance entries required last week, the tests that’ll take place this month and the notifications that won’t come before the end of the month telling the teams if their entry has been accepted for the 24 Hours.

There’s the legitimate fear of NASCAR, another Monster hiding under the bed creating voices in the head of some team owners. For many, the reason they’re in sports car racing is to get away from NASCAR-think. Now NASCAR is elephant in the room as the central owner of the United Sports Car Championship.

After Halloween week, the monsters in sports car racing just are going back in the closet for another year. And these monsters aren’t in removable custumes.

Peace.
