This is the Statt Mann Baby!!  Time to Scatt a little bit.

Much of the Olympic world was tuned to the brilliance of Michael Phelps this week.

His story, his passion quest, his desire in the face of competition captivated millions as he went on a mission for eight medals and Olympic immortality.

Now that he’s accomplished so much, I’m reminded of the silliness that assigns entertainment values to sport to satisfy the whims of money loving promoters.

We weren’t captivated to Phelps just because he was in the Games or drank our favorite soft drink or wore our favorite shoes or clothes.

We tuned in every night to see him COMPETE for excellence and a place in history.

When the game itself becomes more important than the human drama of athletic competition, we have the Globetrotters.  It’s fun.  It’s popcorn.  It’s confetti in place of water in a pail.

Wouldn’t it be great if all of the athletes in our motorsports games competed like Michael Phelps did this week in Beijing?

Now that truly would be entertaining; the human drama of athletic competition on a racetrack.

Peace.
