This is the Stattmann Baby!!  Time to Scatt a little bit.

Last night, here in Southern California, we had an old-fashioned party with great barbeque, some adult beverages and lots of friends and great conversations.

In addition to several companies that help The Freaks there were regular listeners who help The Freaks in their own way.  And there were some of the greatest kids you’ll see anywhere.  Some were orphans.  Some had physical challenges.  And some were fighting cancer.

But all had a ball watching old-fashioned, Saturday night short track racing at Irwindale Speedway.  The NASCAR Grand National West series put on an incredible show and when the dust settled the man standing in the winner’s circle was Austin Cameron, himself a cancer survivor.

Lugg and I will never forget him visiting with us on a broadcast a year ago DURING one of his chemo treatments.  He even apologized while he and the nurse made sure both were on the same page.

It makes you think the beauty of racing isn’t Ford or Chevy or Junior and Jeff.  The real beauty of racing is the ability to bring people together for a good time with a chance to forget what challenges us to celebrate all that makes us brothers and sisters.

And every time we forget that, we diminish ourselves and THE RACE.

All puns intended.

Peace…
