This is the Stattmann Baby!!  Time to Scatt a little bit.

At the beginning of the NASCAR season questions were raised about questions asked by NASCAR media.

I know some of those people and several are brilliant journalists not just flacks flogging the sport.

But asking a driver like Ron Fellows, one of the best sports car handlers in the world, if he feels pressure trying to qualify for the race in Sonoma ON TIME is just stupid.

Only in NASCAR, a major league promotion, are competitors given free rides.  This weekend, for example, four of the five guys sent home were faster than several given free passes into the show.

That’s not a race.  That’s a stage play.  Even Tiger Woods got bumped from this year’s U.S. Open because he wasn’t good enough on that weekend.

To Ron Fellows’ credit he just laughed at the question and went on.  Qualifying on time is normal.  It’s what you do in racing’s real world.

Competition is competition and entertainment is entertainment.  There’s nothing wrong with either until you start confusing where to draw the line to separate the two.

Peace.
