This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit.

They like to refer to the Daytona 500 as NASCAR’s Super Bowl. After today they should rethink that.

2021 Daytona 500 Crash

Fifteen laps into a 200-lap race isn’t the time to crash and take out maybe ten million dollars worth of machinery. Sixteen cars. The stupidity is staggering.

I know fans argue that drivers are competitive and want to win at all costs. But drivers in other disciplines are just as competitive, want to win just as much and do it without fenders sometimes and still don’t do some of the less than smart things I saw this afternoon.

Those weren’t Super Bowl decisions. Neither Patrick Mahomes nor Tom Brady tried to win THE Super Bowl in the first five minutes of the game.

But that wasn’t the first time poor decisions were made on a race track nor will it be the last. During the Red Flag to clean up the mess it started to rain. Fitting.

The best part of the delay was getting to see the making of the Days of Thunder film. You couldn’t nap through that. I wish today’s drivers were just as determined to win. That happens on the last lap. Not the first.

Peace.
