SpeedFreaks: 10 Years to Life

A Decade Of Motorsports Domination As the Most Popular Motorsports Radio and TV Show In The World

Hollywood, CA (June 25, 2010) – This Sunday night for SpeedFreaks’ hosts Statt Mann, Crash Gladys and Kenny Sargent, it’ll be 120 minutes of a landmark radio show for the indelible international motorsports radio and TV superheroes. They’ll fire up the Freakin’ Satellite, plug in their headphones, crank the mics, strike up their staple rockin’ intro and commence to do what they set out to do on June 25, 2000: Change the motorsports landscape.

SpeedFreaks… Mission accomplished.

“Geez, where do I begin,” says the Freaks’ Kenny Sargent. “I guess first I’d have to thank the legions of Freak Nation faithful that hopped on our rock and roll motorsports road show and said ‘hell yea’ SpeedFreaks, we got your back. Second, thank you to Lucas Oil, Continental Tire, Sprint and a legion of sponsors that recognized our brand as a killer means to promote their product. And last, but just as important, our many radio affiliates, television networks and internet homes that have allowed us to continue to preach the Freakin’ gospel. Thank you, thank you and freakin’ thank you!”

The Freaks will mark this heroic event with a lineup that stops just short of seismic. They’ll feature past interviews from such firebrands as Evel Knievel, Mario Andretti and Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead. Special guests like John Force, Tommy Kendall, Brendan Gaughan, Antron Brown and even Vinnie Paul of Pantera & HELLYEAH will have their take of what the Freaks have meant to motorsports and how the motorsports landscape has changed over the last decade.

Legends in the sport have weighed in through the years to validate that what the Freaks have built has filled a void in the motorsports industry.

Mario Andretti: “SpeedFreaks are great friends, I love those guys.”

John Force: “SpeedFreaks are like the National Enquirer. They’re like me, telling it like it is. Congrats SpeedFreaks!”

Helio Castroneves: “Ten years? Really?  I have to say you guys are the coolest people around because you ask the questions in a different way.  What you guys do for the sport is great.  Thanks SpeedFreaks!”

Kenny Wallace: “SpeedFreaks, you are just as crazy as me! That’s why I love you guys.”

Antron Brown: “I have so much respect for SpeedFreaks. I knew from the beginning this show was going to be the bomb. They are no holds barred… its the real deal.”

Brendon Gaughan: “From the beginning, I’m like ‘who in the world are these guys?’  I have a great time with SpeedFreaks. Thanks.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr.: “Every time I call SpeedFreaks, I’m laughing my ass off with those guys.  I wish every show was as much fun as the Freaks.”

Jeremy McGrath: “Grab a seat while you can. SpeedFreaks are the Motorsports Empire!”

But to really digest the past decade, Crash Gladys’ reflections just may say it all.  “For me it’s somewhat sobering to think of how things were when we started SpeedFreaks.  Not only was I an ‘out of job’ actor in Hollywood, but we had two gorgeous buildings in lower Manhattan.  We also had a vibrant New Orleans, Dale Earnhardt Sr. was alive and Dale Earnhardt Jr. was just a rookie.  We didn’t even know what the word text was, let alone Twitter.  In our lifetime, the GOAT was born: Ricky Carmichael won all of his 250/450 championships.  John Force had only 9 titles to his credit (he now has 14) and the IndyCar-CART-Champ Car alliance finally happened.  Almost all racing series now have the HANS device mandatory and the SAFER barrier is more than just an idea in someone’s head.  And if I get really personal, like I tend to do, I even got an amazing husband out of the deal!  We have lived through the good, the bad and the absolute amazing, and it has been a tremendous ride!  Here’s to ten more years!”

Statt Mann Caruthers added, “It’s been the definition of a rollercoaster ride.  I now have a PhD in People.  And you know what would be really funny?  We should have another two hour show with all the people who said we would never make it.”

SpeedFreaks undoubtedly have changed the motorsports landscape over the last ten years, providing an alternative outlet for the biggest names in the sport to be, well, themselves.  Who can forget the whacky conversations with Smoke, Gary Scelzi and Danny Lasoski… Ron Capps, Van Halen’s Michael Anthony and Snake… or Ricky Carmichael in awe sitting next to Motley Crue’s Vince Neil in the Freaks Pits.  Even AJ Foyt, Jack Roush and Chip Ganassi’s jaunts into the Freak Nation should be put into the motorsports hall of fame in their own category.

To every guest who’s sat in as the other Freak, SpeedFreaks thanks you.  And to those who’ve never dared to come in, the Freaks thank you to.

So… shoot the juice to the moose, and for ten years Statt Mann, “Cut it Loose!”
