This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit.

We can start the New Year officially now, Anaheim One opened the Supercross season Saturday night.

Last week’s opening media session was most impressive. The crowd of reporters and riders was larger but the most significant thing for me was something different. More and more riders and sponsors are choosing to cover themselves. They’re making their own videos to support their own Social Media.

That’s becoming more prevalent throughout the sports world so why not Supercross. Social Media allows teams to talk directly with their fans without the filter of reporters.

This is important for another reason. At the news conference I talked with a longtime media friend who specialized in things like Supercross. He told me his paper isn’t even covering the sport anymore. He was only there because it was an event in his Orange County coverage area.

This season you’ll see some major steps forward in the Supercross world of Social Media. Team videos will be much better. Even the coverage of the event Saturday night saw an expansion of the Supercross presence on You Tube. The videos were created especially for You Tube instead of cutdowns from the television play by play.

In short, if you’re a Supercross fan in 2016 you’ll be more than pleased. Some great coverage is coming your way. And with the field offering up first time winners both for riders and manufacturers it’s going to be a wonderful battle for the 2016 championship.

Hope your guy is there all season.

Peace.
