This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit.

There are millions of Americans tonight who feel the events of the week forced the country to take a step back in time.

Well it took some digging but there’s a case where we didn’t. In the 50 Anniversary season of the Trans Am Road Racing Championship, a woman won the title in heads up competition with a man.

In fact, defending champion Amy Ruman, from the swing state of Ohio, repeated her championship won last year. As a Ruman fan, it brings a smile in a week of disappointment.

Ruman started the race in Daytona beside her chief competitor and points leader Paul Fix in a similar Corvette. And Fix took the early lead before having tire troubles on lap ten that led to his retirement three laps later.

Ruman went on to win to seal her second championship. Fix closed the season second in points.

That’s what a woman was supposed to do this week. Maybe we could get Amy Ruman to run for President one day.

Peace.
