This is the Statt Mann, Baby. It’s time to Scatt a Little Bit…

We saw the impact of LeBron James this week. His Decision 2.0 is further proof that players run the NBA asylum now. The basketball is no longer in the owners court.

We can see that kind of impact in motor racing with Red Bull. Whenever its powerful media program gets behind a driver or series, you hear about it for weeks. Without Red Bull’s media push, we didn’t hear much about a smaller budget event like the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb.

Last year Red Bull and Peugeot were behind Sebastian Loeb’s still mind blowing run up the mountain and everyone was thrilled. This year there was no Red Bull help and we heard little about the overall win by Porsche LMP1 factory driver Romain Dumas in a French Norma Prototype.

What we should have heard about is the new power by the Electric Modifieds. Greg Tracy won the class in a Mitsubishi rolling test bed of computers and money. His 9:08.188 is hard to believe for an electric car. He had an electric motor on each wheel.

Sure the road’s all paved now but so are the freeways and streets we usually drive on. The electric vehicle industry is making giant progress. If we could only get motor racing to get back to research and development instead of marketing beer and pickups maybe we could beat this dependency on fossil fuels.

Maybe someone should invent an engine that would run on Red Bull. They’d get it done.

Peace.
