I’m finally back in action after a week in Cabo San Lucas… yes, it was fabulous (and a much NEEDED vacation), but crap do I have a lot to get caught up on now.  So I’ll make this week’s One Stop Shop of weekend racing results a quickie… here goes.

Drag Racing
NHRA raced Bristol… rescheduled from the original date a couple of months ago – a necessary move as the repaved track was at that time lifting away as cars drove down the track… bizarre, but the right thing was done.  Winners on the weekend:  Brandon Bernstein (his 4th of ’07 yet is he is still not the points leader), John Force (an emotional win, tribute to Eric Medlen, John’s 1st win of the year) and Jeg Coughlin (his 2nd of 2007 and still 2nd in points).

Any fighting in Bristol?  Nah…

Sports Cars
ALMS flexed their muscle at Lime Rock… or shall we say the Penske Porsche’s flexed their Mojo at The Rock… they went 1-2 on the weekend, with Ryan Briscoe and Timo Bernhard the winners for the 2nd straight race.

And for another consecutive streak, in the Grand Am race down in Daytona, Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney won for their third time in a row on the season.

How about those open wheel stars in the Sports Car series’ !!!!  Briscoe, Fogarty and Gurney… good on ya boys!

Fights in Sports Cars?  Well, Koni Challenge aside, the answer is No.

NASCAR
Also in Daytona were the Cup and Busch series.  Kyle Busch took the Busch win on Saturday morning and then nearly had the Nextel Cup win that night, but lost it by a mere .004 to Jamie ‘Phone’ McMurray.  Busch then went on to blame his teammate (or lack thereof) Jeff Gordon for the loss as he claimed Jeff didn’t help Busch with the bump draft technique it would take to win.  Ah, the Hendrick Motorsports love is dying a slow death for the 2007 season… remember Vickers suffered the same fate at the end of last year when he announced (as Kyle has) that he would be leaving the team the next year.

Jamie McMurray is still a pansy and will never have what it takes to win a championship… we Freaks have serious issues with the guy… he is a liar, he is not so great to fans, he is not as good to his charity as the press eludes to and many more stories we have seen first hand.  Sorry, Jamie, we wish you nothing.  Until your attitude changes, that is.

Aaron Fike, open-wheeler turned NASCAR Truck driver, was caught on the weekend with possession of drugs and alcohol after he shoved a security officer at the Kings Island amusement park in Ohio.

And further, the Nextel Cup has confirmed it’s name change to the Sprint Cup beginning with the ’08 season… more news on the Sprint Speed Million Sweepstakes on SpeedFreaks this Sunday night July 15.

Fights?  Well, yeah… aren’t there always fights in NASCAR… Stewart is pissed at Hamlin (but isn’t Stewart pissed at just about everyone this year for some reason), Busch has had it with Hendrick (and Jeff Gordon), and like I mentioned above, Aaron Fike hit a security guard.  Yep, the nature of the beast in the stock car ranks.  Heck, that’s what put them on the map in 1979!  The famous fight on the backstretch of the Daytona 500!

Two Wheel
Not much action was-a-goin’ on in the two wheel ranks, especially no fighting.  But a long standing record was finally tied!  In Flat Track, in Joliet, IL, Jared Mees won his 3rd race in a row.  Yet another killer consecutive streak on the weekend!!  But this particular one was a feat no one had been able to do in the series since 2001 when Chris Carr last did so.  Jared led all 25 laps of the race and of course still sits atop the points.

Formula One
Kimi Raikkonen didn’t break out in a fight, but he did spoil the British invasion at the British GP, buy taking the checkered flag first.  Fernando Alonso and Britain’s Lewis Hamilton joined him on the podium, but with the Lewis Nation disappointed they didn’t witness their rookie hero on the top rung.  However, win or not, Lewis has firmly placed his name in the record books by being the ONLY driver in the history of F1 to score nine consecutive podiums!!!!  This damn rookie has never been outside the top 3 this entire year!  Truly amazing!

American Open Wheel
The Champ Car Series did indeed have a fight on their weekend… theirs with Mother Nature.  This was a pretty good race with huge rooster tails out the back of the cars at times.  Will Power ended up the winner and with only a few minutes to go, #1 and #2 in the points (Sebastien Bourdais and Robert Doornbos) took each other out.  But no fights between them, at least not from what I saw…

And finally, on to IndyCar at Watkins Glen where the big fight did indeed happen.  First of all Wade Cunningham and Alex Lloyd split the Indy Pro Series wins on the weekend, then Scott Dixon went on to win the IndyCar race (his 3rd straight at this venue).  But the true winner on the weekend has yet to be decided… is it Sam Hornish’s Dad (he shoved Tony Kanaan in the pits) or Kanaan’s friend (who threw Mr. Hornish Sr. down to the ground)?  The answer is neither.  The true big winner is the IndyCar series as a whole… that hysterical fight has made it on to all the highlight reels and just in case you didn’t know IndyCar yet, you sure do now.  Hey, I am Indy!  R U?
