This is the Statt Mann Baby. It's time to Scatt a little bit.

Some history Sunday in Germany. The Citroen World Rally Team dominated the WRC’s first asphalt rally of the season. Teammates Sebastien Ogier and Sebastien Loeb had the field covered all weekend before Ogier pulled away to the win after a tire puncture plagued Loeb on Saturday.

It was Loeb’s first loss in Germany in nine years.

That’s the headline, the Ogier victory. The back story however is something people have been talking about all season.  Understand that Loeb is a seven-time defending World Rally Champion. He’s leading the points for an eighth title this season. He’s been the lead driver on the Citroen team during all that time.

Ogier, however, is the newcomer. He’s challenging Loeb and the Citroen team says it’s treating the two of them equally when it comes to resources and equipment. But a comment from Ogier, this weekend, suggested that Loeb’s flat tire that changed the event on Saturday was justice but he wouldn’t give reporters more details. That miffed Loeb as you can imagine.

They’re saying all the right things in media comments. And Loeb signed up for two more years with Citroen when the new Volkswagen team came calling this year.

It’s a delicate time to be sure. It’s a story worth watching.

Peace.
