This is the Statt Mann, Baby. It’s time to Scatt a Little Bit…

Robby Gordon’s Stadium Super Truck series got a huge bump being showcased on ESPN and ABC during X Games Austin this weekend.

And the series put on its best face for its showcase. Twenty trucks showed up in Austin at Circuit of the Americas for what’s officially called Formula Off-Road Stadium Super Trucks. Names like Baldwin, Luyendyk, Lofton and Viso joined Gordon on the marquee.

The series started as an answer to the big Mickey Thompson events that used to run in Stadiums around the country a generation ago. But fans were slow to respond.

So this year the show was taken outdoors to several IndyCar tracks including the majestic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Metal ramps were placed around the paved circuits to get the trucks off the ground into an aerial circus that people are buying.

The series is growing slowly and ESPN has found it timely with Global Rallycross disappearing into the Red Bull madness and an NBC programming schedule this year.

ESPN hopes the finicky X Games demo will latch onto Stadium Super Trucks the way it embraced rally cars. Rallycross became more popular than skateboards in the past six years so if Stadium Trucks can take their place, the cash registers and ratings boxes can keep punching ESPN/Disney tickets.

Peace.
