This is the Stattmann Baby!!  Time to Scatt a little bit.

Ever heard Chris Rock and Bill Cosby, among others, talk about Dads?

Moms always are at the top of the respect list even though it was Daddy who brought all the necessary equipment, took the kid to practice and waited for years for the child to learn the ropes just so he could hear the child say “Thanks Mom!” in victory lane.

This week I talked with former two-time NHRA Pro Stock World Champ Jeg Coughlin.  He’s sitting out the NHRA tour this year after a year of frustration last season.

But Jeggie’s far from retired.  He won some big money a couple weeks ago in a special Mopar Hemi race in Las Vegas.

But what really stood out in our conversation was Jeggie describing how he now has time to take his son to practices.  He has time to make a sandwich for him after school.  And, with Daylight Savings Time, he now has time to take him out for an afternoon of… name it!

It’s not like Jeggie’s retired.  Jeg’s Mail Order, the family business, is one of the largest, fastest growing companies in the motorsports industry.

In other words he has a day job, a racing job, and a Daddy job.  Like the rest of us!  And if he returns to racing, something tells me he’ll still have time to be Dad.

Can you say that?

Peace…
