Between Dale Jr., Tony Stewart and Juan Pablo "I’ll rear-end ya" Montoya, there is always something newsworthy in the Freak Nation.  ON the track or OFF the track, Motorsports big timers find their way into the Freak Nation and make a difference to a lot of folks in need of cheering up.  Especially our kids fighting cancer.  But as a board member of our Speedreaks official charity, ABCF, aka, America’s Baby Cancer Foundation, I have to mention one contributor that has never run his sled at Talladega OR Bristol.

Robert Schimmel HAS however crossed the finish line faster and with as much STYLE as any racer that has ever been in the Freaks Pits. If you KNOW comedy, then you KNOW Robert Schimmel.  HBO, Comedy Central, a veteran hilarious guy discovered by Rodney Dangerfield.  But some of you may not have known that he lost his 11 year old son Derek to Cancer, AND fought a battle with Cancer himself.  Thankfully he has been cancer free for 6 years.  And on April 16th Robert Schimmel donated his time, his thoughts and his heart to our America’s Baby Cancer Foundation Benefit show at the Irvine Improv in Southern California.  To say it was a privilege to be a part of that night is like saying The Daytona 500 is a pretty nifty event.  Robert Schimmel is a Star!  But more importantly, Robert Schimmel cares!  He cares about people, kids, and he makes a difference.  He donated personal items, and 2 sets of his ENTIRE CD/DVD collection to auction off with all proceeds going to a foundation that he had never previously met!!!  And the thing that I will take away from that evening is the vision of Robert pulling $60.00 dollars from his pocket and presenting it to ABCF President Philis Lane.  You see, the previous night at Robert’s show in Florida, he told his audience where he was going the next night and about kids battling cancer.  Three very generous people, touched by Robert’s obvious passion and personal experience with cancer, donated $20.00 each.  24 hours and 3000 miles later, Robert Schimmel let his fans and his heartfelt commitment make a difference.  Because that’s who he is.  And I am blessed to have met him.

When you see him out at a comedy club please support a genuine friend of kids fighting cancer, and check out his website at
