This is the Statt Mann, Baby.  It's time to Scat a little bit.

I sat with all of you this week when LeBron James made his Decision to take his brand to South Beach where he'd play for the Miami Heat NBA franchise.

Without getting caught up in that nuance, let's look at the bigger picture.

He had the right to do what he did.  He might have done it poorly but he did it with the full approval of the NBA's collective bargaining agreement.

So, let's look at this issue of branding as it applies to motor racing.

The sport's largest brand obviously is NASCAR.  People stand in long lines with big numbers for just a whiff of anything NASCAR. And millionaires were created selling those whiffs.

All with the approval of society's collective bargaining agreement called the market economy.

Those millionaires bought vineyards, private air forces, die casts and t-shirts. Then they bought more brands and made millions more. It became branding not racing.

Just like in the NBA it's about branding and not necessarily basketball.

Stock car racing even held a TV network hostage and moved their brands to Florida where they could make more millions and create more brands. Funny how all this works.

And we criticize LeBron?  Funny how that works, too.

Peace.
