This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit.
This is a motorsports lifestyle venue but something is happening that needs to be connected.
This week ESPN and ABC launched an incredible five-part documentary on the Making of O.J. Simpson. Part one Saturday night was captivating.
In short, it showed that Simpson was all about Simpson during his college and NFL career. He said over and over again that he was OJ and not a black man.
He turned down overtures from black athletes who wanted to boycott the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. Those athletes included Bill Russell, Jim Brown, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Muhammad Ali.
This week we saw the world revere the memory of Ali at his funeral in Louisville. Throughout his life Ali made himself available to rich and poor alike. Russell, Brown, Jabbar and Ali all stood up for African American civil rights and they’re honored for that.
Simpson stood for Simpson and today he’s in jail. A disgrace. Accused of a double murder and in jail convicted of armed robbery involving stuff allegedly stolen from him.
Ali honored. OJ disgraced. Maybe OJ was right. He wasn’t a black man. He was just OJ.
Peace.
