This is the Statt Mann, Baby. It’s time to Scatt a Little Bit…

There was some brilliant driving this week at the  Red Bull Global Rallycross finale in Las Vegas.  The move of the season came two laps into the last Main event.

Finnish driver Joni Wiman was fourth and had to get to second to insure the season championship.  On a hunch he took the short cut Joker lap and passed two cars in front of him to come out in second place.

He said he made the decision on his own without help from his spotter. It was a move that landed him the 2014 Global Rallycross title even though he didn’t win a race all season.

Wiman finished second in the Final behind Ken Block who won his second event of the year in Las Vegas. But it wasn’t enough last Wednesday. Block and his crew won everything during the event but couldn’t close the deal for the title; all because of some quick thinking by  Wiman.

And none of it was manufactured. There was no artificial chase or elimination rounds. The fans weren’t asked who’d they like to see compete for the championship. It was just old fashioned racing and quick thinking that created drama all on its own.

That’s the way competition is supposed to be.

Peace.
