This is the Statt Mann, Baby. It’s time to Scatt a Little Bit…

Stock car racing is not my favorite thing but I find it enormous fun to visit my local short track on a Saturday night.

And it appears I’m not alone for some Saturday night shows. Just like minor league baseball, the Saturday night live fans at Irwindale Speedway in Southern California LOVE things like a good ol’ night of destruction.

That’s when kids and kids on dates cheer their brains out for things like trailer races, destruction derbies, skid plate figure 8s, auto soccer and more mind numbing things that leave the track a debris field resembling a SuperFund Site.

Nothing’s at stake unless you’re behind the wheel or know who is.

Last night I was one of the few who cheered for the winged sprint car demo race they got out of the way early so the others could ooh and aah at the crashes.

And let it be said the crowd was more than capacity at Irwindale, that’s nearly seven thousand or almost three times the usual Saturday night for a stock car double header.

Think about that the next time you stick your nose in the air and say those destruction demos are a waste of time. They certainly aren’t for the track operator.

Peace.
