This is the Statt Mann, Baby. It's time to Scatt a little bit!

A lot was said a couple weeks ago when Renault Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica drove in a minor national rally in Italy and suffered severe, even life threatening injuries, in a horrific accident. Kubica has undergone hours of surgery but doctors feel they've saved his right hand. Now he'll face weeks or months of rehabilitation before he can get back in a race car.

The question then? Why do this and threaten your career and the money invested by Renault in this world class property?

Well this week we learned that another world class property, former DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom, fell and broke his wrist playing volleyball in an Audi training camp. Now Ekstrom will face weeks of recovery and rehab before the the former German Touring Car champion can be ready for the DTM season opener May 1st.

The noise about Kubica's indiscretion has been silenced now with Ekstrom's injury.  Should drivers be allowed to do what they want? They probably should within reason. The things that send them to the edge are just the things that separate them from  us. And they're the things that make them winners.

Apparently, you can't have one without the other.

Volleyball anyone?

Peace.
