This is the Statt Mann, Baby. It’s time to Scatt a Little Bit…

I’m not even a small Kurt Busch fan. And I bet he feels about the same where I’m concerned. But his run at the Indianapolis 500 last week deserves all the accolades it can receive.

Busch qualified 12th less than a tick behind defending IndyCar champion Scott Dixon.

He kept his nose clean and finished sixth between former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya and four-time ChampCar champion Sebastian Bourdais when the Checkered Flag fell.

Of course it didn’t hurt that Busch was in a Honda-powered Andretti Autosport machine. Team owner Michael Andretti had his four cars in the top six including Victory Lane at Indy.

Busch’s chance at immortality last weekend fell short when the engine on his Sprint Cup car blew up mid-race at Charlotte.  The Busch double odyssey on Memorial Day fell short of the history books.

Busch probably isn’t the only Sprint Cup driver who’d do well in open wheel. Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne and, maybe, Carl Edwards would all turn heads.

I’d certainly like to see them get the chance.

Peace.
