Much has been said about the McLaren surge in F1 performance since summer. It was really on display Sunday afternoon at the start of the US Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas.

Lead driver Lando Norris jumped off to a big lead and controlled the race at the start.

The stories in the garage say that McLaren has found some aerodynamic performance gains that especially work on high-speed turns at COTA. The problem now is how the aero affects the tire life.

Paddock talk says the updates were made in the floor and sidepods that look more like the faster Red Bull cars. Red Bull has long had advantages in aero.

The leading brain in the F1 aero department is engineer Adrian Newey who’s on the Red Bull team. That’s part of the teams Formula One domination the past two years.

There are four races left in the F1 season in Mexico, Brazil, Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi. Mexico is the fastest left. The altitude helps get the car through the air quicker and downforce is needed for more control at speed.

Red Bull might come back to the field the rest of the season.

Peace.
