Chris "Throttle" Jacobs
Please Welcome to the Freak Nation... the newest freakin' host... Chris Jacobs!
Yes, Freaks, we need to find a nickname so I can appropriately fit into the Freaks Pits. Only time will tell as it needs to happen organically, but maybe, just maybe, "Throttle" will take over. I am a lead foot after all... if you have another idea, send it to us at PitCrew@SpeedFreaks.TV
I'm a Chicago boy, probably known best for my role as the host of TLC's Overhaulin’. More on that in a minute. Wanna talk NFL with me? Then be sure to be nice to my Chicago Bears. NBA? Keep it real with my Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers... yes, Freaks, I said Clippers! After moving to California in '88 where I attended Whittier College and then onto graduate school at Western State University College of Law, I did become a Clippers fan.
Just a few years after being admitted to the State Bar of California, I found myself on the small screen, most notably with Overhaulin'. It was awesome being involved with not only the show, but also Chip Foose, THE most influential auto designer on the planet. There is so much I could say about Chip, but I'm most proud to say that he is just a great friend.
Many of you ask what my favorite 'overhaul' was on the show, and I would have to say it was the '67 Coronet that I designed. That was the episode where Chip and I "flipped"... he hosted the show and I designed the car. Freakin' sweet! I also enjoyed working with Jay Leno to shock his friend by soupin' up his '56 Chevy Nomad. Another great project was when we surprised Lance Armstrong by assisting the crew in turning his stock GTO into a masterpiece. Will Overhaulin' return? Only time will tell, but thanks to all of you motorheads and just plain auto enthusiasts alike for such great support.
Since I love anything and everything to do with the automotive community, I founded my own enthusiast web site, HubGarage.com. Hub Garage is MySpace for true car people... it's where car people connect. Come join me there any time and build your virtual garage and show us all your rides.
What I love about radio…
You have to rely completely on your voice and quick wit. There’s no script in the studio, everything we do is improv and off the cuff. I’m so stoked to be a full time SpeedFreak and work with Kenny, Crasher and Statt!
With an hour of spare time…
You'd most likely find me on the range working on my short game! Either that or getting out in the garage and working on the GTX!! I'm happiest either on the golf course or behind the wheel of that GTX. Too bad there isn't a way to combine the two!!!
Another passion of mine...
Music. I’ve played guitar since I was seventeen, and lately I’ve been obsessed with playing piano.
When I’m home…
I’m either in my office taking care of business or in the kitchen making some tasty dinner! I love to cook. Ceviche anyone?
On my DVR right now…
Lots of stuff from the History Channel, Mad Men, The Shield and of course Overhaulin’!!
Best song for now…
‘Muzzle’ by Smashing Pumpkins
Certain people…
Have a really bad habit of speaking before they think. One think I learned in law school that has always stuck with me is that you cannot punish a person for their thoughts. Just like mom used to tell you, ‘If you have nothing nice to say, then don’t say anything!’
Motorsports is…
One of the most unique and expansive sports in existence. So many different forms brought together by one thing: SPEED
My job is…
Something that makes me one of the luckiest Freakin’ SOB’s on the planet.
You should’ve met…
My friend Jimbo. Possibly the coolest person I ever knew. He taught me so much about life I can’t even imagine… Jimbo passed in 2005. Knowing he’s out there makes death just a little less scary.
Why worry about…
Arguing with meter maids? They already started writing the ticket!!!
I question…
Why people feel the need to expose their entire life on Myspace!!
Freakin’ thought for the day…
Always be honest so you won’t have to remember your lies!!
